Do you believe your journey matters?
Recently, on a summer morning at our cabin, a little duck demonstrated the answer.
While seated in our porch with my feet criss-crossed on a stool top, I enjoyed a cup coffee and morning prayer. When I looked out at the harbor, I noticed one lone duck making its way toward shore. Across the glassy surface, a wavy trail spread out into a wide V sending a mass of glowing ripples into the outer lake. I thought about how that little duck had just left its unique mark on an eighteen- by twenty-mile lake.
End result? A bird simply going about the business of being a bird sparked my imagination and added meaning and beauty to my morning.
“Ahhh,” I sighed. Good to know that it doesn’t matter how insignificant we think we are. God has designed all of us to leave a mark on the landscape of humanity somehow or other. Our contributions do make a difference, and how we live counts as we leave a tracing of our path on planet earth.
Even more importantly, a Divine Someone, Who sees every path, every wake, every journey from His throne, believes we matter and thinks we’re beautiful.
Doesn’t that change how we view not only today, but yesterday and the days to come? All we have to do is dive in and be who we are created to be, do what we are gifted to do, and leave the rest to the One Who orchestrates it all.
