Welcome
I’m a journalist. I’m fascinated by people, history, animals, the intricacies of language, the wonders of the universe, and most of all, the One Who set it all in motion. I’m not fancy or famous, but I am a sincere person and try hard to be good to people. As a cancer survivor, the sheer privilege of life astounds me. I love to laugh, especially if it’s so hearty, I end up crying. Mentally, I enjoy logic, visiting it quite often in my left brain, but prefer to live from my right hemisphere, exploring the exploits of imagination.
My husband of 54 years is super cute, my two daughters are perfect, and my three granddaughters are the smartest girls in the whole world. And that’s all I have to say about that.
I pray often, because in my experience on planet earth, that’s how life works best. Have I had accomplishments? Some. But that’s not who I am. Success for me is not measured by projects, money, or position. I’m more impressed by character and love, so I try to focus on things like attitude, kindness, integrity. . . you know, the stuff that makes a person who she really is and will shine after she’s gone.
I’m Irish, Swedish, French, and a little German, or so I hear. I come from an impressive line of teachers and business people (my parents and great grandmother being stellar examples of business) and a great aunt who was a superintendent of schools. Also in my ancestry line are writers, a community theater actor and bank owner, television personality, contract bridge champions, a Swedish baker, a doctor, and insurance broker. I hope I have a bit of each ancestor in me and relish such an interesting heritage.
For fun, I love dancing, playing cribbage and bridge, and going to baseball games and theater, especially musicals.
Why do I write? Hard to say, but not because I’m unsure. Rather I feel it’s mysterious. I am often awed by the process. When I write, time is irrelevant. It seems as soon as I begin to type, suddenly it’s time to stop. I might be alone in my office, but I’m never lonely. The words seem subdued in 12-point fonts but extravagant in my soul, sometimes playing hide and seek with my brain. I’m excited that something so small on a computer screen could someday connect to readers I haven’t ever met. All I know is that I love doing it, and I hope you will feel as though something good is happening in your life because of my many hours tapping a keyboard.
