R.S.V.P. Your Dreams

Sky'sNotLimit

An R.S.V.P. validates an invitation. But when our hearts invite us to reach for the sky, do we give our own dreams the courtesy of a reply?

Dreams have a voice. They can be loud, quiet, relentless, unassuming, detailed, sketchy, big or small. I see mine as reflecting a piece of my own personality. I get to know me from my dreams. I’ve learned to listen, and I’ve also lived to regret not paying attention. In any case, I need to notice, behold, and reply to a good dream. It’s a sign of respect for who I am and what God has put into me.

But it’s easy to decline a good dream: “Sorry, I have another commitment. Can’t make it. Won’t work for me.”

Or procrastinate: “Maybe next time. Super busy right now. We’ll see. It all depends.”

Or, worst of all, ignore: Silence.

A worthy vision deserves better than. that.

Sometimes, though, we don’t show up for our own dreams, because we’ve failed or perceived we’ve failed. Or we’ve let negative words or judgements determine how we feel about ourselves and our abilities..

Maybe it’s not about things that have happened as much as it is about the ones that didn’t happen. Regrets are the neon lights of stories unfulfilled.

Maybe we’ve felt invisible after giving something our best shot, and no one seems to appreciate it or us very much. Feeling invisible is a dark shadow of loneliness.

Maybe we don’t have the hope or energy to start over or again. Weariness is a valley carved by mountains never climbed.

Maybe this. Maybe that. But isn’t that ironic? Possibilities fuel dreams, direct the strategies, and stimulate excitement. The good side of maybe is a dream’s best friend. Maybe the vision is a good idea. Maybe one more try will take us soaring.

Best of all, maybe it’s time to view the sky not as the limit but limitless, because beyond the clouds is a God on a throne Who dreams.

God dreams? Of course, He does. He dreamt of us long before we came to be. He dreamt of purposes and adventures. He dreamt of our special part in His big picture, the master plan for all creation and humanity.

The fact that we exist and are on this earth proves that God still has dreams for us. Even if some ideas are past retrieval, He can and will use them to enrich the ones that await us.

The sky’s not the limit. It’s an invitation: “Come. Reach. Listen. You are not invisible. You are not done yet.”

That’s when we R.S.V.P. ourselves: “Can’t wait! Love to! Sounds awesome! I’ll be there! Wouldn’t miss it for the world!”
